Soil Change, A Threath To Ecosystems

Soil Change, A Threath To Ecosystems

Forest reserves are those natural spaces made up for one or more ecosystems that provide environmental and social services and that, with sustainable maintenance, allow the conservation of planet’s ecological cycles. This is why it is very important to recogniza these areas and work for their care and preservation.

Colombia is currently the third country with the greatest biodiversity on the planet and we have 59 protected areas. We have a big responsability in our hands as we own such an important amount of natural resources. Although the government has internationally expresse its interest in preserving marine and terrestrial ecosystems, committing itself at COP 26 Glasgow to protect 30% of these, its interest in mining and extraction activities should also be mentioned.

National media have reported that the Ministry of Environment has a draft resolution in which its contemplated to favor the implementation of mining and energy projects in forest reserves, this by making more flexible procedures with the corresponding entities, in this case the Regional Autonomous Corporations.

What is worrying is that this draft does not mention climate change or environmental protection, nor is it very clear how environmental compensation would be handled. All these facts contribute to the increase in deforestation on those areas that are supposedly the most protected in our country.

As colombians we have a great responsability towards our planet and we cannot ignore it. Working for the environment and contributing to ecological causes is possible through small actions such as sharing information or planting a tree.

Join us and let’s sow life together!
