5 strategies for the improvement of green areas

5 strategies for the improvement of green areas

Green areas are spaces used and shared by communities. Urban parks or nature trails that are not managed by the District, the community is called to care for and maintain them. However, not everyone is aware of how to take care of green areas, they need different cares in order not to deteriorate and to keep all their benefits for the enjoyment of the community.

For this reason, at the Red de Árboles ONG we will give you some basic tips for you to learn how to take care of green areas:

  • Watering and maintenance of green areas

You must make an inventory of the plants you have since all plants need specific care. For this reason, to know how to take care of the green areas of your community you must know the specific care of each species.

A good idea to save water and optimize water absorption is to water the plants at night, because the water does not evaporate as it does during the day and the plant will absorb all the water you pour on it, unlike when you water it during the day.

  • Planting trees in green areas

Planting more plants in the green areas, planting continuously is very beneficial as it is one of the best activities for the community to start creating environmental awareness and for everyone to learn how to take care of the green areas.

In addition, they absorb 2,900 gallons of rainwater, filter 28 kg of air pollution, are home to small animals, can lower the air temperature between 2 C and 8 C, retain rainwater allowing it to seep into aquifers, absorb CO2 from the environment and transform it into CO2.

  • Do not litter in green areas

Although it sounds like something that is understood and should not even be mentioned, it is one of the simplest and most useful activities you can do to protect green areas. It is a basic act of civic culture that many people overlook.

The accumulation and lack of control of this garbage deteriorate the appearance of green areas. In addition, when the amount of garbage in green areas is exceeded, it generates a bad odor and attracts flies and mice.

It is convenient to install litter garbage cans of any material (stainless steel, aluminum, or fiberglass). In this way, those who need to throw something away while in or passing through the green area will do so in the appropriate place.

  • Continuous pruning of green areas

Permanent pruning is important to take care of the areas, the continuous pruning of these will help you to maintain a good image. Pruning the grass and plants every 15 days approximately, you will avoid that the urban green areas of the community have dry, burned, or damaged grass. These damages that the grass can suffer are due to weather changes or excessive use of this area.

  • Respect restricted crossings in green areas.

Avoid passing through urban green areas in your community that have some kind of restriction. In most cases, they do not allow you to pass through them because there are plants that can be easily damaged.

All green areas for children and adults have areas you can walk and sit without damaging them. Respect the boundaries, even if you have to walk a little further to reach your destination.

Be especially careful when you take your pet for a walk, avoid letting it out of your sight, as animals can often cause damage to plants in urban green areas when passing between plants.

The above are strategies that you can implement in green areas to help reforest and preserve these vital spaces for human well-being. Knowing how to take care of green areas will allow you to enjoy pleasant spaces that will help you reduce stress and anxiety. In addition, they are a natural source of oxygen that will contribute to improving the air quality of your community.
